Scala Data Centers, a sustainable hyperscalable data center platform founded by DigitalBridge – a digital infrastructure investment holding company -, evolves its EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) plan across Latin America. Being integrated conducted, it supports 100% of the activities of employees, third parties and suppliers of all the company’s data centers though safety and the environmental practices, bringing a set of well-successful procedures to the segment in the region.
Currently, each Scala Data Center under construction has an EHS team made up of engineers and technicians, and each one in operation has at least one dedicated professional in the area. It is up to these professionals to apply all the guidelines on the topic through preventive actions, which include checking the work, mapping deviations, controlling documentation, and promoting the EHS culture in order to reduce the number of accidents and mitigating risks. Monitoring is carried out through indicators which cover the activities of own and outsourced employees or subcontractors allocated at data centers and sites under construction. These figures are monthly monitored and serve as a basis for short and long-term action plans.
Scala also adopts a robust training schedule with a preventive focus, which has already benefited more than 770 people, including employees and third parties. In the last quarter of 2021 alone, more than 3,000 hours of training were carried out.
Along with the monitoring of these KPIs, Scala’s EHS area reinforces protective measures against COVID-19 through rapid tests at all sites, prevention instructions and a complete health protocol.
Another important action for the data center segment is the organization of the Work Safety Week for Scala suppliers in Brazil. Carried out every four months, the event seeks to review safety standards, level the knowledge of the company’s EHS requirements of data center and construction sites’ service providers and showcasing their safety performance indicators, also requesting action plans for the next meeting.
“Our EHS team works holistically and proactively across all campuses, ensuring secure data centers for our employees, customers and suppliers. It is important to emphasize the integrated EHS plan is outlined and carried out 100% in line with our ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) agenda”, explains José Eduardo Quintella, Vice-President of Engineering and Construction at Scala.
