After nearly a decade leading AWS data center infrastructure division, the executive joins the company to increase the efficiency of data center operations and make the client experience even better
SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL —May 11th, 2022 – Scala Data Centers, a sustainable hyperscalable data center platform, announces Eduardo Reigada as its new Vice President of Data Centers Operations. He joins the company’s team after nearly a decade at AWS, where the executive performed a management marked by innovation and operational excellence to its mission-critical infrastructure services.
With a Master’s in Computer Science by the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), Reigada has more than 30 years of dedication to the Infrastructure, Telecommunications, and IT segments. At AWS, he was Head of the Data Center Infrastructure Business area for all Latin America, supporting the exponential growth of the giant cloud company. He was also responsible for the achievement of two internal patents focused on the engineering operations infrastructure, which aimed to ensure greater efficiency in cooling and reduction of response time in maintenance activities.
The executive was also in charge of other great projects that highlighted the history of infrastructure in the region. Reigada participated in the implementation of the first commercial non-public Internet backbone in Brazil in 1996, leading the Engineering and Operations areas of Global One Communication, a joint venture between Sprint, France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom. As Director of Engineering and Operations at the former 360networks, a Canadian submarine cable company which created dozens of North American routes via DWDM technology, he was one of those responsible for developing the interconnection between Brazil and the United States in a redundant ring, carried out by the Atlantic Ocean. The design resulted in very low latency. He also has previous experience at Brasil Telecom and Motorola.
With a work style characterized by innovative processes, Reigada highlights that Scala’s purpose, spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship were essential in his decision to lead this new professional project. “It is inspiring being able to support Scala to be the best data center services company in the region, based on a culture of security and availability, with a focus on people development and using innovation as a catalyst for sustainable growth”, he says.
The new Vice President of Data Centers Operations will report directly to the company’s CEO and Co-founder, Marcos Peigo. “Reigada’s arrival fills us with pride and responsibility. With his experience, he could certainly hold a top executive position at any major data center operator. With a deep knowledge of the sector, by choosing Scala, he reinforces our vision that we are building a unique project in Latin America, and, at the same time, our choice demonstrates our commitment to serving large infrastructure clients with scalability, innovation, and agility”, evaluates Peigo.
