With a unique HyperEdge approach, customized for the connection and distributed computing demands of Hyperscale clients, the site will be operational in Q2 2023
SÃO PAULO, Brazil – October 5th, 2022 – Scala Data Centers, the leading Latin American platform of sustainable data centers in the Hyperscale market, announces the construction of its first site in Porto Alegre city, Southern Brazil. As part of the HyperEdge family designed by Scala, this site is planned to meet the connection, and distributed computing (edge) demand of large content and cloud service providers. With 7.2MW of customized and dedicated capacity for Hyperscale clients, this is the only data center of its kind in the region, scheduled to go live in the second quarter of next year and with two major cloud and content providers as clients.
Strategically located in a region with high population density and relevant economic activity, the data center will be very close to data capture points, allowing the computational processing of different services and applications that require low latency, such as metaverse, Internet of Things (IoT), telemedicine, autonomous cars, among others, whose implementation will be accelerated by 5G.
With an estimated investment of R$ 250 million, the construction of the new venture uses the FastDeploy approach, Scala’s proprietary design and construction methodology, which allows the implementation of data centers in up to 50% less time when compared to the traditional model. This solution is based on prefabricated and transportable modular components, which are integrated into the buildings of the data center, thus providing an optimized experience for Hyperscale clients. A high-speed and low-latency connection is also planned with the future campus, which the company plans to deploy in Porto Alegre to support the demand growth signaled by its clients for the coming years. The company estimates generating more than 200 direct and indirect jobs for the construction and operations phases.
Following the company standard, a pioneer in the adoption of sustainable practices in the construction and operation of its data centers, the HyperEdge site, based in Porto Alegre, will have 100% renewable energy consumption and a high energy efficiency index, as well as reduced water consumption.
“We are creating the necessary infrastructure for the application ecosystem to exploit the 5G potential. We continue to build large campuses which house the core transactions of our clients, and now, as the maturity of the applications advances towards data processing closer to the users, we are also building HyperEdge data centers, connecting the new regional data centers,” says Marcos Peigo, CEO at Scala Data Centers.
“Porto Alegre is an entrepreneur-friendly city, which now welcomes the Scala Data Centers operations. An investment that corroborates with the vocation for innovation and the transformation strategy of the Fourth District, which this city administration is making real with the master plan for the region,” adds Mayor Sebastião Melo.
