Scala Data Centers showcases FastDeploy at the ITW 2023 innovation stage

The presentation will address the perks of the company’s proprietary construction method, which allows deployment of a data center up to 50% less time when compared to the traditional model and in a sustainable way

SÃO PAULO – May, 12th, 2023 – Scala Data Centers, the leading Latin American platform of sustainable data centers in the Hyperscale market, will present at the 16th International Telecoms Week (ITW) 2023 the FastDeploy, a solution that allows the implementation of regional HyperEdge data centers up to 50% less time when compared to the traditional model. The company will address the benefits of this approach and its potential contribution to the growth of the Hyperscale market in Latin America, in addition to highlighting the sustainable differentials of the methodology.

On May 17th, at the ITW innovation stage, between 9:30 am and 10:30 am, Thiago Pongelupe, Pre-Sales and Product Director at Scala, will give a presentation on the theme “FastDeploy: How to grow fast and sustainable”. The executive will explain how methodology allows the Hyperscale segment to develop more quickly while being sustainable. Data centers deployed with this method have the sustainable differentials of operating exclusively with renewable and certified energy; Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) equal to zero for using air-cooled chillers; industrialized and optimized and incremental construction, which allows for less stranded assets and lower carbon footprint. Also, as FastDeploy is used to implement data centers in more and new regions, it means that it helps the local economy of those regions to grow up and improve the life quality of its communities by creating new jobs, contributing to their sustainability. It is estimated that approximately 300 direct and indirect jobs are created when a FastDeploy data center is built.

FastDeploy is a patent-pending design and construction methodology of Scala, developed by its Center of Excellence in Engineering (CoE), the company’s team of specialists and engineers responsible for verticalizing the entire design, project, construction, and commissioning chain of new data centers. The solution is scalable, highly replicable and based on prefabricated and transportable modular components that are integrated into the buildings at the site where the data center is built, guaranteeing the experience of the customers with the same standard with which they are already accustomed in the data centers of the company.

The first Scala data centers built with this solution are those in Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre cities, which have, respectively, 7.2MW and 4.8MW of IT capacity. The first one commenced operation recently and the second one is scheduled to start operating later this year. The projects are part of the expansion plan of Scala in Latin America, which by 2027, will have 33 data centers in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico, with a portfolio of more than 900MW.

The new construction method of the company has as one of its objectives to speed up the expansion of HyperEdge regional data centers in Latin America. Located in metropolitan areas, these sites are gaining relevance as they serve as a “bridge” between the large traditional data centers located in central regions and other locations with high population and industrial concentrations and intense economic activity. Currently, there are more than 87 cities in Latin America with a population of over 500,000 inhabitants, 26 of which have more than 2 million inhabitants, in addition to significant economic activity.

Regional data centers enable the computational processing of various services and applications that require low latency, such as the Metaverse, Internet of Things (IoT), telemedicine, self-driving cars, among others, as they are close to the collection points of large data volumes. The expectation is that these applications will be accelerated with the implementation of the 5G connection in the Latin American market.

“With FastDeploy, our Hyperscale customers will be able to explore new regional and strategic markets in record time, with all the advantages that pioneering brings, scaling their operations as demand grows,” explains Marcos Peigo, Scala’s CEO. “As FastDeploy’s capacity blocks are independent and can be added up on demand, this approach allows for long-term contracts with smooth ramps of growth to higher demands. It also allows for the implementation of shared buildings, without losing the individualized customization feature that is already available in our single tenant data centers with high capacity,” adds the executive.

Technical information about FastDeploy

FastDeploy is made up of modular components that provide power and cooling resources ready to support varying densities, reaching more than 20KW per rack. All FastDeploy sites are born with a starting capacity of 2MW, which can be scaled by implementing additional MiniPODs delivering 60 racks per block.

Through a strategic and exclusive agreement with Scala, the smart modular structures are manufactured by Modular Data Centers in a modern factory launched in 2022 and which has more than 20,000 sqm of area to support especially FastDeploy demands. The manufacturer delivers ready-made, load-tested, commissioned and TIA-942 Ready-certified modular components throughout Latin America.

FastDeploy is endorsed by the ANSI/TIA-942 Rated 3 standard, which attests to electrical, mechanical, telecom, architecture and safety parameters for the construction and design of data centers. Scala is the only colocation operator in the region to work with this comprehensive standard.
